Apple Is Reportedly Spending $500 Million on Apple Arcade Game Service

Apple Arcade is an upcoming gaming subscription platform from Apple for Apple devices. Personally, I don’t think it’s going to hit the mark, but Apple is going to try. According to Financial Times (via CB), Apple is spending roughly $500 million on the service. That is half of what they are spending on their video streaming service. The same report indicates that Apple is planning on subscribers paying roughly $12.99 a month for the service, but knowing Apple, they’ll probably go for the even $20 a month.

Apple Arcade will have over 100 games that are exclusive to the platform. Of course, the exclusivity is said to vary based on the game. Some will only ever appear on Apple Arcade while others will appear on Apple Arcade first and then later release on other platforms.

What do you think of this plan? Is $500 million a good enough starting budget? Do you plan on using Apple Arcade?

Apple Arcade is currently primed to release this fall.
