Apple Renews Seth Rogen’s Hilarious Hollywood Satire Series THE STUDIO for Season 2
Apple TV+ has officially renewed The Studio for a second season, ahead of its Season 1 finale set to air on May 21. This is one of my favorite shows to watch right now! I’m loving it.
The sharp, satirical, and hilariious comedy was co-created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, with Rogen starring as Matt Remick, the new head of Continental Studios. The show digs into the absurdity of the movie industry as Remick tries to survive the egos, chaos, and artistic pretensions that come with making everything from prestige dramas to tentpole blockbusters like a Kool-Aid Man movie.
In a statement Rogen and Goldberg said: “We’re looking forward to taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two, then repeating that loop for ten more seasons.”
Created by Rogen, Goldberg, Frida Perez, Peter Huyck, and Alex Gregory, the show boasts a stellar ensemble cast. Bryan Cranston plays Remick’s intimidating, old-school boss Griffin Mill. Catherine O’Hara plays Patty Leigh, the studio’s former head turned producer. Ike Barinholtz plays Sal Saperstein, an exec-turned-Golden Globe darling. And Kathryn Hahn takes on the role of Maya Mason, the no-nonsense head of marketing. Rounding out the regular cast is Chase Sui Wonders as junior exec Queen Hackett.
Season 1 has been a who’s-who of cameos and industry meta-nods. Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Sarah Polley, Greta Lee, Anthony Mackie, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, Olivia Wilde, Zac Efron, and Ice Cube all show up playing themselves. Even Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos makes an appearance.
Throughout the season, Remick juggles the chaos of trying to greenlight a Spike Jonze satire, a Smile-style horror flick titled Wink, a Sarah Polley-directed romance, and a Ron Howard project, while also managing the sheer weirdness of turning a corporate mascot like the Kool-Aid Man into a movie icon.
Apple’s head of programming Matt Cherniss shared his excitement: “Seth, Evan, the entire creative team and cast of The Studio have knocked it out of the park with this brilliant show, and it has been incredible to watch the conversation grow with each new episode.
“We can’t wait to see where Matt Remick takes Continental Studios in season two, and hope for his sake that the Kool-Aid movie crushes at the box office.”
Rogen and Goldberg added, “We’re excited to keep all our industry friends and colleagues guessing as to when one of their personal stories will stream on Apple TV+.”
It’s great to hear that we are getting a second season, and I’m excited to see what kind of Hollywood chaos is going to be thrown at us!
