Apple TV+'s Adaptation of Isaac Asimov's FOUNDATION Adds Five More Actors

Apple TV+ is building up the cast for its adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation with the addition of Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, and Cassian Bilton. They join the previously announced leads Lee Pace and Jared Harris.

Asimov’s Foundation was originally published as a short story series for Astounding Magazine in 1942. The story chronicles the saga of The Foundation, “a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it.” The complex saga tells the story of humans that are scattered on planets throughout the galaxy, and all of them are living under the rule of the Galactic Empire.

Llobell (Voyagers) will take on the role of Gaal, “a mathematical genius from a rural, repressed planet.”

Harvey (Fighting With My Family) will play Salvor, “the protective and intuitive warden of a remote outer planet.”

Birn (The Birdcatcher) will play Demerzel, “the enigmatic aide to the Emperor of the Galaxy (Pace).”

Mann (Sense8) will star as Brother Dusk, “the eldest living member of the ruling family.”

Bilton will play Brother Dawn, “the youngest living member of the ruling family and next in line to be Brother Day.”

Harris is set to take on the role of Hari Seldon, “a mathematical genius who predicts the demise of the empire.” He’s also been described as "a psycho-historian” who sets out on a journey to “save the knowledge of mankind from being wiped out."

Then there’s pace Pace, who will star as Brother Day, “the current Emperor of the Galaxy.”

David S. Goyer, who has worked on several DC film projects over the years, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Here's the description from the first book:

For twelve thousand years the Galactic Empire has ruled supreme. Now it is dying. But only Hari Sheldon, creator of the revolutionary science of psychohistory, can see into the future--to a dark age of ignorance, barbarism, and warfare that will last thirty thousand years. To preserve knowledge and save mankind, Seldon gathers the best minds in the Empire--both scientists and scholars--and brings them to a bleak planet at the edge of the Galaxy to serve as a beacon of hope for a fututre generations. He calls his sanctuary the Foundation.

But soon the fledgling Foundation finds itself at the mercy of corrupt warlords rising in the wake of the receding Empire. Mankind's last best hope is faced with an agonizing choice: submit to the barbarians and be overrun--or fight them and be destroyed.
