Apple Won't Allow Bad Guys or Villains to Use iPhones in Movies
When directing Knives Out, Rian Johnson learned something interesting about Apple and one of the conditions they have about people using iPhones in movies. It turns out that Apple will not allow bad guys or villains in movies to use iPhones!
Johnson dropped this little tidbit of information during an interview with Vanity Fair in which he said:
“I don’t know if I should say this or not. Not ‘cause it’s like lascivious or anything, but because it’s going to screw me on the next mystery movie that I write. But forget it, I’ll say it, it’s very interesting. Apple will let you use iPhones in movies, but, and this is very pivotal if you’re ever watching a mystery movie, bad guys cannot have iPhones on camera.”
He then amusingly adds:
“Every single person who has a bad guy in their movie and wants it to be a secret wants to murder me right now.”
It’s true! Now, all we have to do is pay attention to which characters are using an iPhone and which characters aren’t! iPhones are a part of modern society, so filmmakers will always incorporate them into the movies they make that are set in the present day.
This is a pretty wild tidbit of info regarding one of the strict rules Apple has that filmmakers have to abide by to use their product. Personally, I think that’s a silly rule. In real life lots of bad guys use iPhones! Hell, some people see Apple as the bad guy!
