AQUAMAN 2 Reportedly Recasting the Role of Mera After Amber Heard Backlash, and the Actress Responds
Rumors have been swirling around the Aquaman 2 film’s fate since the drama surrounding the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial pushed fans to petition for Heard to be recast in the film. I don’t think anyone was really impressed with her performance or onscreen chemistry in the first film, and the internet loves someone to rally against, so it wasn’t a hard decision.
But due to a recent rumor, it could be that the push to replace her in the sequel may be closer to coming to fruition. In a recent report from Just Jared, an insider told the outlet, "Warner Bros. decided to recast Amber Heard's role after screentesting the movie. They are going to be doing reshoots with Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman."
The studio has not confirmed the report, but The Blast reached out to Amber Heard for comment on the latest, and a spokesperson for the actress responded, stating, "The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane."
So for now, it’s still a rumor. But maybe if screen tests are happening for the film, we really will hear what the studio plans to do very soon.
