AQUAMAN Director James Wan Pitched a BLADE Reboot Film a Few Years Ago

Before the director of The Conjuring jumped into the DC universe to direct Aquaman, there was another comic book project that he wanted to develop. He wanted direct a Blade reboot!

The filmmaker revealed in an interview with Happy Sad Confused that he actually pitched his idea for a new Blade film to a “particular studio” saying:

“Years back, a couple of years back, I think it was right after Conjuring 1 that I went into a particular studio and told them ‘Hey, I’m a big fan of Blade. Would you guys be interested in rebooting Blade?’ So that was one. Obviously, nothing came out of that! But that was my first intro into looking at potential comic book properties.”

Obviously, the “particular studio” he made the pitch to was Marvel. He couldn’t remember what exactly his idea for it was, though. He went on to say:

“It was just to kind of talk about it. I didn’t have a full presentation. I did have an idea, I can’t quite remember what it was. That’s how far back it was and I’ve done a lot since then so I can’t quite remember what I had thought of. But I did like it at the time.”

With Wan being a horror guy, it completely makes sense for him to make a film like Blade! I actually would love to see Wan make a Blade film! I bet he would deliver a terrifyingly badass Blade film! There’s no doubt he would embrace the horror aspect of the comic.

Marvel hasn’t done a Blade reboot yet, so there still might be a chance for Wan to do it at some point down the road. I’m a huge fan of Wan and his films, and I’d love to see him get the opportunity to make his Blade movie one day. Who knows, though, maybe his loyalty lies with DC now.

Would you like to see Wan reboot Blade for Marvel?
