AQUAMAN Script To Be Written by GANGSTER SQUAD Screenwriter

The Aquaman movie being directed by James Wan just took a concerning turn with the hiring of Will Beall to write the script. For those of you who don't know, Beall is the guy who wrote the films Gangster Squad and The Legend of Conan, both of which had terrible scripts. I was excited about this film when Wan came on board to direct, but a movie is only as good as its script.

He will be writing the script from a treatment that was written from scratch by Wan and co-head of DC Films, Geoff Johns. Beall does not spark a lot of confidence, but who knows, maybe he'll surprise us with something awesome — especially with the guidance of Wan.

There are absolutely no details on what this story will entail, but Jason Momoa is set to play the title role. He made his very underwhelming debut in the DCEU in Batman v Superman. THR offers us a little breakdown of the history of the project, explaining:

Warners was developing Aquaman on dual tracks, hiring multiple writers to develop scripts simultaneously. Beall and Kurt Johnstad, a frequent collaborator of Justice League director Zack Snyder, then a major architect of the DC cinematic universe, were hired in summer 2014. Late last year, when Wan came circling the project, Wan’s Conjuring 2 scribe David Leslie Johnson became another track.

At least they have settled on a story and a single writer. Wan obviously knows the direction he wants to take the film in. I just hope that Beall is the right man to give life to the script.

We'll find out when the movie is released on July 27, 2018. The film also stars Amber Heard as Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Aquaman's advisor, Vulko.
