ARC RAIDERS and THE FINALS Are Getting Film and TV Adaptations From Chernin Entertainment
Two of Embark Studios’ biggest video games are making the jump to Hollywood. ARC Raiders and The Finals are officially being developed for film and television through a new partnership between Nexon, Embark Studios, and Chernin Entertainment.
There was plenty of interest in bringing these games to other mediums, with multiple studios and production companies competing for the rights. Chernin Entertainment, the film and television division of The North Road Company, ultimately landed the projects and will serve as the lead producer on the adaptations.
It’s easy to see why Hollywood wanted in on the action. ARC Raiders takes place on a future Earth where humanity has been hammered by a mysterious mechanized enemy known as ARC. Players become Raiders who venture into a dangerous but colorful world in search of valuable resources, all while dealing with massive machines and other players who may be just as eager to kill them.
The game has become a monster success since launching in October 2025, selling more than 16 million copies worldwide. It was named Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2025, won Online Game of the Year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, and picked up Best Multiplayer at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards.
The game also isn’t slowing down. Its biggest content update yet, Frozen Trail, arrives Wednesday, October 7.
The Finals, meanwhile, offers a very different playground. The free-to-play first-person shooter takes place inside a virtual combat game show where contestants battle for fame and fortune across highly destructible arenas inspired by real-world locations including Monaco and Las Vegas.
More than 30 million players have jumped into The Finals over the past three years, with its physics-driven environmental destruction becoming one of the defining parts of the experience. Season 12 is scheduled to launch October 20.
Both games have worlds that could easily translate to film and television in some cool ways, especially if the adaptations embrace what makes each property distinct instead of simply recreating their gameplay.
Patrick Söderlund, Nexon executive chairman and Embark Studios founder and CEO, said: “Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing ‘ARC Raiders’ and ‘The Finals’ into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community.
“Throughout the process, the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.”
Embark’s creative teams will remain closely involved as Chernin develops the adaptations, which should help keep the personality and visual identity of the games intact as they move into new formats.
David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment, added: “‘ARC Raiders’ and ‘The Finals’ are exactly the kind of opportunities we’ve been building towards at Chernin Entertainment: ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television.
“Nexon and Embark have created visually stunning, atmospheric worlds that contain countless stories to tell. We’re honored they’ve trusted us to unite our film and television teams to tell those stories.”
Chernin Entertainment already has plenty of experience across both film and TV. Its recent film projects include Backrooms, which grossed more than $400 million worldwide against a $10 million budget, as well as Netflix’s The Last House.
Its television credits include the Apple TV series Chief of War, Truth Be Told, and See, along with Netflix projects The Madness and Man on Fire.
There’s no word yet on what stories the ARC Raiders and The Finals adaptations will tell, who will write or direct them, or whether the games’ existing characters and storylines will carry over.
Still, these are two properties with plenty of material to work with. ARC Raiders could make for a killer sci-fi survival story filled with terrifying machines and competing human factions, while The Finals has the potential to become a wild action spectacle.
Now we’ll just have to wait and see what Chernin and Embark decide to do with them.
