Arclight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres Shut Down and Will Not Reopen
Well, thanks to the pandemic and movie theaters shutting down, there are two theater chains that will not be opening back up. Arclight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres have announced that they are shutting down permanently.
I’ve gotta say… I’m pretty bummed out by the news as Arclight Cinema is my favorite movie theater chain. In fact, I’m actually crushed by the news. Archlight was home to the iconic Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, CA. I have so many great memories and wonderful date nights with my wife at the Arclight Cinema. That’s where we always went! I’ve been patiently waiting for them to open back up, but now that’s not gonna happen. Lots of movie fans were wondering if movie theaters would actually make it through the pandemic and while some did, obviously not all of them will.
The company said in a statement, “After shutting our doors more than a year ago, today we must share the difficult and sad news that Pacific will not be reopening its ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres locations. This was not the outcome anyone wanted, but despite a huge effort that exhausted all potential options, the company does not have a viable way forward.”
The company went on to say, “To all the Pacific and ArcLight employees who have devoted their professional lives to making our theaters the very best places in the world to see movies: we are grateful for your service and your dedication to our customers. To our guests and members of the film industry who have made going to the movies such a magical experience over the years: our deepest thanks. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you.”
I hate this shit. It’s not just movie theaters, a lot of venues have shut down over the past year! I lot of restaurants that I enjoyed going to as well as other businesses. My only hope is that someone or some company will step in to buy the theater chain and relaunch it.
