ARE YOU AFARID OF THE DARK? Clip Features a Carnival of Nightmares and Details on Horror References in The Series
We’ve got a new clip from Nickelodeon’s reboot of the horror series, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and it features a group of teens, who make up the Midnight Society, being terrorized at a carnival of nightmares. This limited series actually looks like it’ll be a lot of fun to watch.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? will consist of three hour-long episodes that will introduce a new Midnight Society. This group of young teens that make up the Midnight Society will “tell a terrifying tale about the Carnival of Doom, and its evil ringmaster Mr. Top Hat, only to witness the shocking story come frightfully to life.”
Are You Afraid of the Dark? writer BenDavid Grabinski also talked with Bloody-Disgusting about the series, and opened up about the kind of horror references that the series will be loaded with:
“It’s all very, very deeply nerdy but in a way that if you don’t know the references you won’t know [they’re] references. The kids’ names are Rachel Carpenter, Graham Raimi, Gavin Coscarelli, Louise Fulci and then Akiko Yamato, and then her brother is Officer Hideo Yamato, which is [referencing] Hideo Kojima…So a bunch of just deeply nerdy stuff. There’s a bad guy in the show, you’ll find out his real last name is Cochran because I really like Halloween III…It’s one of those things where it’s like, it passed the smell test. I have a thousand references in it and no one on set knew they were references, which to me is the magical level. It’s like some movies where it’s like, here’s Officer Spielberg and Romero, and I’m like, ‘Well, that’s a little too much.’ We all have our own internal barometer over what is too much and what is corny or too obscure.”
So I guess we should be keeping a lookout for little cool Easter eggs like this while watching the series.
The main cast includes Sam Ashe Arnold as Gavin, Rafael Casal as Mr. Tophat, Miya Cech as Akiko, Tamara Smart as Louise, Jeremy Taylor as Graham, and Lyliana Wray as Rachel. The limited series was written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) with Dean Israelite (Power Rangers) directing.
The Are You Afraid of the Dark limited series is set to be released on October 11th.
