Arnold Schwarzenegger Says Studio Sent Him a Script for COMMANDO 2
One of the most over-the-top action movies of the 1980s might finally get a sequel. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently revealed that a script for Commando 2 has been sent his way.
The update came during Schwarzenegger’s appearance at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, where he talked about studios approaching him to return to several of his most iconic characters.
During the conversation, Schwarzenegger explained that FOX has renewed interest in working with him again and even mentioned a potential sequel to his 1985 action classic. Arnold said:
"They did an additional Predator and the director (Dan Trachtenberg) has been doing a great job of that. Now, he wants me to be in the next Predator.
“We’ve talked about it. As a matter of fact, FOX studios has kind of rediscovered ‘Arnold’. They’ve come to me and said, 'We want you to do Predator, we just got a script for you to do Commando 2’."
The original Commando introduced audiences to John Matrix, a retired special forces soldier who goes on an absolutely chaotic rescue mission to save his kidnapped daughter.
The film became a cult favorite thanks to its explosive action, unforgettable one-liners, and Schwarzenegger going full action hero.
If Commando 2 actually happens, it would likely follow the same philosophy Schwarzenegger mentioned for his other potential projects. Arnold explains:
“Now, what they do is that they write the part. They don’t write them like i’m forty years old, you write it to be age-appropriate. I’ll still go in there and kick some ass but it will be different."
A sequel would bring John Matrix back decades later, potentially placing the legendary soldier in another high stakes mission.
There’s no confirmation that the film is moving forward yet, but the fact that a script exists and has been sent to Schwarzenegger is a pretty interesting development. If the project gains traction, fans of classic ‘80s action might finally get another wild ride with Matrix.
