Arnold Schwarznegger Says Jason Reitman Pulled the Plug on His TWINS Sequel
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito were set to star in a sequel to their 1988 comedy Twins. The movie was titled Triplets, and Tracy Morgan was going to play their third brother.
Back in 2021 it was revealed that the original film’s director, Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) would be returning for the sequel, the script for which was written by Dylan Dawson and Lucas Kavner. The movie was supposed to shoot in Boston, as the two unlikely brothers Julian (Schwarzenegger) and Vincent (DeVito) find they are part of a trio.
As you know, though, Ivan Reitman tragically passed away in February of 2022, and according to Schwarzenegger, after that, Jason Reitman pulled the plug on the movie. He shared in an interview with THR:
"Jason Reitman literally stopped the project when his father died. His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, 'I never liked the idea' and put a hold on it."
While everyone was excited to make the movie, except Reitman, I guess we won’t be seeing that movie get made. I’m sure all of the actors will be fine, though. Schwarzenegger, DeVito, and Morgan aren’t going to have any issues continuing to find work.
They probably all just wanted the opportunity to work with each other again. When talking about working with DeVito, Schwarzenegger said: "He's so much fun to work with and so talented.” Maybe they will find another project to do together.
When previously talking about the movie Ivan Reitman said: “Secretly, there was a third baby born, a Black baby, who hasn’t been in touch with his siblings. They don’t know each other and very early in the movie they meet and it’s how they achieve a bond together after all these years. It’s really a film about family and, no matter how different we all are, we have to learn to get along. These guys have great chemistry together, and you can see that in the reel, and how much energy they bring out in each other.”
