ARROW's Stephen Amell Comments on Shocking Mid-Season Finale Ending
SPOILERS AHEAD — YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
Last night's episode of Arrow all led up to a fight between The Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable). The fight was well choreographed and showed a real escalation of skill. In the final moments, Oliver Queen takes a deviating mortal wound from the sword of al Ghul. This death blow was was followed by al Ghul kicking Queen off a cliff. If he were not the title character, it would be safe to assume that Oliver Queen is dead.
Many geeks familiar with Ra's al Ghul lore quickly noted that the Lazarus Pit that has given Ghul a long life also has healing properties. In the promo for the first episode after the winter break, someone is seen approaching the body of Queen.
I believe that it's Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) for a number of reasons. The top one being that he was with the League of Assassins and likely knows the location and has an incentive to keep Queen alive.
My second theory is that the reason the fight happened on that specific mountain is that a Lazarus Pit is hidden nearby. Because if you were al Ghul, wouldn't you want to fight near the magical pit that can heal pretty much any wound?
After the mid-season finale aired Amell (in jest) tweeted:
This led to a few confused or mad twitter followers who didn't think it was funny.
Amell's own mother while watching the show:
Amell took to Facebook to comment on the recent episode:
Facebook. Thank you so much for the enthusiasm spilling out of tonight's fall finale. I've never had anywhere near this amount of feedback. And by feedback, I mostly mean swear words. There were an awful lot of expletives.
Seriously though: Despite the title, our show is bigger than any one character. We're going to prove that to you.
Sit tight... January will be here in no time.
xo
(And look Mom... I'm totally fine.)
I'm excited for the return of the show. I'm also glad the murder of Sara Lance has been solved. Arrow returns January 21st, 2015.
