Will Smith Will Not Return as Deadshot in James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD

When it was announced that James Gunn would write and direct The Suicide Squad for DC, it was reported that “Gunn’s focus is to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters and actors.”

So we expected that some of the characters from the first film would not return for this new film, and now we’ve learned that Will Smith is not expected to reprise his role as Deadshot, which is something I initially expected would happen, but for different reasons than is being reported.

According to sources, the studio has “always wanted its biggest stars like Smith and Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in the first pic, to return while figuring out other casting decisions along the way.” One of the main reasons for the actor pulling out is because of scheduling conflicts and the decision to part ways was on amicable terms between both sides with no hard feelings.

So if Will Smith was expected to originally be in the film, what will Gunn do with the character? Will they recast or take the character out of the story completely? One day, we’ll find out!

The Suicide Squad is set to be released date is currently set for Aug. 6, 2021.
