As THE CROW Bombs at the Box Office The Director Responds To Backlash From Fans

As expected, the new adaptation of The Crow is completely bombing at the box office with only $4.6 million on its opening weekend, and the movie has been met with tons of bad reviews.

While talking to Entertainment Weekly, director Rupert Sanders responded to the backlash from fans, saying: "I think a lot of people are very active online and not so active in life. Get out and do something and have less time throwing stones."

The filmmaker added: "I think it would be great just for people to know that this is a reimagining and wildly different from the original and that the original's still there. I haven't recorded over anyone's VHS.

“You can still go and see that movie, and I hope this movie resonates with people who loved that movie when they were in their teens. This is my version of that text. It was my adaptation of James's graphic novel, which I loved."

I get what he’s saying, but at the same time, the director’s adaptation of the source material, his “vision of that text,” simply wasn’t good.

As for telling fans to get out and do something, I’m a fan of the comic and the original film, and I am a very active outdoorsy guy, so that argument doesn’t work. Regardless, telling upset fans to go and touch grass doesn't seem like the best way to win them over.

Instead of blaming the fans, the filmmaker should at least take the constructive criticism offered in many of the reviews from critics and fans and learn from it so his next film will be better.
