Asa Butterfield Frontrunner for SPIDER-MAN?
Last week a shortlist of young actors reportedly up for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marvel and Sony's upcoming co-production hit the internet. They included Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, and Liam James.
All of them seem like great contenders to take on the role of a young teenage version of the webslinger, but I'm personally a fan of Butterfield, who has starred in films such as Hugo and Ender's Game, and I'm rooting for him to get the part.
According to Latino-Review, Butterfield is the frontrunner for the role, which is pretty exciting! He would be amazing in the role. It has not been confirmed by Marvel or Sony yet, so this is just a rumor for now, but it's a rumor that I obviously want to be true.
The site reached out to the actor's reps, but they were met with a, "no comment” response. They also reached out other industry sources who have confirmed that he "is indeed the frontrunner," and one source told them that the actor had already landed the role, saying:
"Marvel had liked him since day one."
An actor needs to be cast soon since he will first appear in Captain America: Civil War, which starts production very soon. After that, work will begin on his solo film, which is set for release on July 28th, 2017.
What do you think about Butterfield possibly playing Spider-Man?
