Video Suggests Scarlet Witch's Power is to Show the Future and How That Plays Into INFINITY WAR
The best description of Scarlet Witch’s powers comes from Avengers: Age of Ultron when Maria Hill says, “He’s fast and she’s weird.” In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, her powers are always very vaguely defined with very little explanation of what she can really do. Of course, they mention mental manipulation and telekinesis, but to what extent does she have these powers? Well, in a video from CinemaBlend, they claim that she is able to show the future. They use examples from Age of Ultron including Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. I feel like it’s all but confirmed that Thor saw a vision of the future which gave us the events of Thor: Ragnarok. This leaves Tony Stark’s vision and Captain America’s vision to really be discussed.
Tony Stark had a vision of his fellow Avengers dead or dying on a hill accompanied by other dead soldiers. One thing I find interesting is the fact that Hawkeye doesn’t move, but he’s sitting up without support (possibly alluding to the death of Hawkeye but not Clint Barton who becomes Ronin). If we follow the pattern of Thor’s vision, we can conclude that these visions are not literal depictions of things to come, but a bit more figurative. Of course, the vision pushes Tony to create Ultron who ultimately tries to kill the team. However, I am convinced that Tony will remember this vision at some point during Avengers: Infinity War and in an attempt to prevent the deaths of his friends, he will end up sacrificing himself. It could also have been alluding to Captain America: Civil War which signaled the death of Cap’s and Tony’s friendship and the other dead Avengers were either MIA (but in Infinity War) or on Team Cap in the end.
Captain America’s vision took him back to the 1940s to a celebratory party after World War II ended. While this looks like a vision of the past (similar to Black Widow's), it wouldn’t make sense since he wasn’t there for the end of the war. However, the video suggests that this points to Steve Rogers being sent back in time during the events of Infinity War (possible, due to the Time Stone). It would be possible for Steve to be stuck in the past, which would make for a way to pass on the mantle without killing Chris Evans off. However, that would create problems with the timeline.
It’s important to note that this theory doesn’t address Black Widow’s vision, but that vision might be considered addressed with how her arc in Ultron went in the romance with Bruce Banner. The video is also open about how it is not foolproof and is pure speculation. I enjoyed the theory and think that parts of it may come into play. Were these visions just to mess with the Avengers in Age of Ultron, or did they have a larger role to play? What’s your theory?
