Asmodee Acquires Online Board Game Platform Board Game Arena

Board Game Arena is an online board game platform that lets people play 250+ games with just their mobile browser. The games are official online versions and there’s support for 40 languages. Some of the games can be played for free while others (and some key features) require a premium membership of $4 per month or $24 per year. Well, Asmodee recently announced that they’re acquiring Board Game Arena.

The press release states that Board Game Arena will still operate independently and will work with all publishers, but many Asmodee games including Catan, Pandemic, and Ticket to Ride will be added to the platform ASAP. I think it could be really cool if some of the Fantasy Flight Games titles were added like Eldritch Horror. Talking about the deal, Thomas Koegler of Asmodee said:

Our growth is based on one crucial commitment: offer the best gaming experience to consumers and bring our brands to the widest audience. Having a platform that allows players from all over the world to meet, play their favorite games together or discover new games is a natural fit alongside our amazing catalogue of board games. Skull and Splendor will be in the coming weeks the first of a long list of Asmodee releases on the platform: we hope that players will enjoy them!

The cofounders of Board Game Arena, Grégory Isabelli and Emmanuel Colin, said:

Working with Asmodee allows us to continue our massive growth, with a partner that shares our love and passion for board gaming. Asmodee fulfills a sine qua non criteria for us: that BGA is always run by absolute board game fans whose core business is board game.
