ASSASSIN'S CREED, FANTASTIC FOUR 2, and More 20th Century Fox Release Dates

I was beginning to think we'd never see an Assassin's Creed film starring Michael Fassbender. Plans for a film adaptation of the popular video game have been tossed around for the past few years — remember when Tom Hardy was going to star in a Splinter Cell movie? Whatever happened to that project? — and now 20th Century Fox has finally set a release date for Assassin's Creed: December 21st, 2016. Now we'll just have to wait and see exactly which portions of which game(s) they'll use as the source material, since the Assassin's Creed universe is quickly expanding with the release of at least one new game every year.

The Animus — the in-game machine that drives the narrative — is pretty out-there, and depending on the tone and style of the movie, I can easily see it being depicted in the same kind of way that the godawful Total Recall remake handled its Rekall machine: too slick, too sanitized, too boring. But then again, the filmmakers could also use something like Inception as a template, and that might give the whole project a life and vitality that could make this the best film adaptation of a video game ever made. Time will tell.

In the meantime, The Wrap reports that 20th Century Fox has also announced a few more release date changes: a comedy called Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates will drop on July 29, 2016; Hugh Jackman's P.T. Barnum movie The Greatest Showman on Earth arrives in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2016; the romantic drama The Mountain Between Us hits on February 10th, 2017; Fantastic Four 2 will debut on June 2, 2017; and Matt Reeves' sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will bow on July 14, 2017.

Which of these movies are you looking forward to the most?
