AT&T is Reportedly Looking for Buyers for Crunchyroll with a Minimum Price Tag of $1 Billion

Last week, it came to my attention that AT&T might be looking to sell off Crunchyroll, the popular anime streaming service. Well, it turns out that there may be more truth behind this. Variety is reporting that while Sony shot down the offer of buying the service (thank goodness) for $1.5 billion, the service is being pitched to other companies with a minimum price of $1 billion.

AT&T’s motivation for this is to reduce its debt which at the end of June was around $153.4 billion. Now, I do find it interesting since Crunchyroll actually seems to be doing great. It’s releasing new original content like The God of High School which fans are loving and two weeks ago they reported having over 3 million paying subscribers. If you live in the United States, a subscription costs $7.99 plus taxes. Assuming the price is the same across the world, that comes out to over $23.9 million a month in a niche market.

What do you think of this move? Who do you hope to see buy Crunchyroll, or do you hope that it stays with WarnerMedia and AT&T?
