ATTACK ON TITAN Creator Hajime Isayama Drops Awesome Art for THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU

Hajime Isayama, the mind behind Attack on Titan, has delivered a special illustration promoting the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu. The artwork was revealed by Star Wars Japan, and it came with a handwritten message from the artist.

The image shows Din Djarin zipping through the air on a wire with Grogu strapped to his chest. It clearly channels the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear from Attack on Titan. That same sense of speed and aerial control that the Survey Corps is known for is baked right into the pose. It’s a fun crossover of visual styles.

What makes this even better is hearing how Isayama connects to Star Wars on a personal level. In his message, he talked about how he first experienced the saga in a pretty unconventional way.

“I watched Episodes 6, 5, and 4 in reverse order at a host family’s home in Idaho.”

That unique introduction clearly stuck with him. He went on to explain what defines Star Wars in his eyes, pointing out the contrast that gives the universe its texture and personality.

“The tension between cold, sterile spacecraft and the organic traces of dust and mildew gave Star Wars a sense of lived-in authenticity.”

It’s a perspective that longtime fans will instantly recognize. That worn-in, used-future look has always been part of the franchise’s DNA, and it’s interesting to see it resonate with a creator from a completely different medium.

He made sure to acknowledge the real star of the show: “Grogu is cute, beyond what language can properly express.”

This collaboration is part of a larger push in Japan that connects major anime creators with Star Wars projects. It’s something Lucasfilm has been leaning into more, especially after working with Tite Kubo on a visual for Andor’s season finale in 2025.

For fans of both franchises, this crossover is just plain fun. It’s awesome seeing the gritty, high-intensity style of Attack on Titan collide with the space western vibe of The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters worldwide on May 22, 2026.
