Aubrey Plaza Falls Into a Life of Crime in Trailer For EMILY THE CRIMINAL
Aubrey Plaza stars in an upcoming new crime drama titled Emily The Criminal, in which she plays a woman in hard circumstances who falls into a life of crime to make a decent living for herself. I had the opportunity to see this movie at Sundance and it was a solid film featuring a great performance from Plaza.
Plaza plays Emily, a woman with a minor criminal record who is just trying to make it in the world. But, because of her past, it’s hard for her to find a decent job. In an effort to help make ends meet, she ends up taking a shady gig as a "dummy shopper," which involves her buying products with stolen credit cards and reselling them.
The movie was directed by John Patton Ford and it also stars Theo Rossi. Here’s the synopsis:
Emily (Aubrey Plaza) is saddled with student debt and locked out of the normal job market due to a minor criminal record. Desperate for income, she takes a shady gig as a "dummy shopper," buying goods with stolen credit cards supplied by a handsome and charismatic middleman named Youcef (Theo Rossi). Faced with a series of dead-end job interviews, Emily soon finds herself seduced by the quick cash and illicit thrills of black-market capitalism, and increasingly interested in her mentor Youcef. Together, they hatch a plan to bring their business to the next level in Los Angeles, CA.
Roadside Pictures will release Emily the Criminal in select US theaters starting August 12th, 2022 and you can read my review for it here.
