AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Has Made $435 Million So Far Worldwide
It looks like James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is on its way to becoming another big success! So far, the movie has made $435 million at the box office! $134 million of that is domestic, which is said to be behind expectations, but it’s still a great opening weekend!
To put this in perspective, the first Avatar movie released in 2009 made $241 million worldwide and $77 million domestically and it went on to gross over $2.7 billion worldwide. This doesn’t mean that The Way of Water will break the $2 billion box office mark, but I’m rooting for the movie!
I enjoyed Avatar: The Way of Water! It’s a great visually stunning movie, and I’ve seen it twice so far. I’ll probably see it a couple more times before it leaves theaters. This is just such an incredible and fun movie-going experience and in my opinion, it was worth the wait.
The Way of Water cost $350 million-$400 million to produce, making it one of the most expensive movie in modern Hollywood history. Cameron previously indicated it would need to gross in the $2 billion range to be considered a success. With those opening numbers, I think the movie has a good chance.
Cameron did not disappoint with this movie, and I hope that he gets to tell the full story that he has planned out for it!
The film is set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
The movie stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Winslet.
The movie comes out on December 16th!
