AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Already Has $16.5 Million in Ticket Sales and It's Just Getting Started
Marvel Studios has every reason to be feeling good right now. The first box office update for Avengers: Doomsday is here, and the movie is already off to an incredible start months before it even hits theaters.
If these early numbers are any indication, the MCU's next Avengers event is shaping up to be one of the biggest theatrical releases in years.
Following the debut of the film's first trailer, Disney opened advance ticket sales for Avengers: Doomsday, and fans wasted no opportunity to lock in their seats. According to a new report from Variety, the movie has already brought in an impressive $16.5 million in advance ticket sales.
Those sales came from just 1,000 theaters, with tickets limited to Infinity Vision-certified screens. That's only a fraction of its eventual rollout, as Doomsday will launch in more than 4,000 theaters across North America when it opens on December 18, 2026.
The demand has been so strong that theater chains are already expanding the schedule, including adding more Christmas showtimes to accommodate moviegoers hoping to catch the latest MCU epic during the holiday season.
One interesting wrinkle is that Disney won't have access to IMAX screens during the film's opening weeks. Those premium auditoriums have already been reserved for Dune: Part Three for three weeks. Even without that premium format contributing to early sales, Doomsday is already putting up eye-opening numbers.
Perhaps the biggest statistic is how it compares to Marvel's most recent blockbuster. Variety reports that Avengers: Doomsday has sold twice as many advance tickets as Deadpool and Wolverine did during the same period. That film went on to earn more than $1.3 billion worldwide, despite carrying an R-rating.
That's an incredible benchmark, and honestly, it isn't much of a surprise. This is the first Avengers movie since Avengers: Endgame arrived in 2019, and fans have been waiting years for Marvel's flagship team to reunite on the big screen.
Add the return of fan-favorite characters, the arrival of Doctor Doom, and the fact that this movie will set the stage for the future of the MCU, and it becomes pretty easy to see why audiences are buying tickets so far in advance.
At this point, it feels less like a question of whether Doomsday will be a massive hit and more about just how massive it will become. Everything points to this movie turning into a full-blown box office juggernaut.
Of course, opening weekend is still anyone's guess. For comparison, Avengers: Endgame exploded with a staggering $357 million domestic opening in 2019. More recently, Deadpool and Wolverine debuted with $211 million in North America before finishing its theatrical run with more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Endgame ultimately earned over $2.7 billion globally, and it's also set to return to theaters later this September with new content.
Marvel and Sony also have another major release on the horizon with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently projected to open between $180 million and $190 million by conservative estimates when it swings into theaters later this July.
Looking beyond Doomsday, Marvel already has its next event lined up with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for release in 2027, making the next couple of years especially exciting for MCU fans.
Moviegoers will finally get to experience Avengers: Doomsday when it arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, and judging by these early ticket sales, it's already on a path toward becoming one of Marvel's big box office successes.
