AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Confirmed To Deliver an Avengers vs. X-Men Battle
Avengers: Doomsday is gearing up to throw two of Marvel’s most iconic teams into direct conflict. This isn’t just another crossover designed to bring heroes together. It’s a high-stakes collision that puts the Avengers and the X-Men on opposite sides of a fight that looks impossible to avoid.
It’s wild to think how impossible this once felt. Back when the MCU first launched, Marvel didn’t even have access to some of its biggest icons.
Characters like Iron Man and Captain America weren’t always the heavy hitters they are today. The X-Men and Spider-Man were the real crown jewels, and they were locked away at other studios. That kept these worlds completely separate on the big screen for years.
Everything shifted in 2019 when The Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox. That deal brought the X-Men back under Marvel’s control. Not long after, mutants started threading their way into the MCU, with Ms. Marvel confirmed as the franchise’s first official mutant.
Since then, the Multiverse Saga has been laying the groundwork to merge timelines and characters that once had no chance of crossing paths. Now it’s all colliding in Avengers: Doomsday.
Early footage shown at CinemaCon, which hasn’t been released publicly yet, gave us a taste of just how intense things are about to get. The scale is massive, and the threat is very real.
Robert Downey Jr. steps into the role of Doctor Doom, and one moment in particular says everything you need to know. Doom casually catches Thor’s Stormbreaker between two fingers after Thor uses all of his might to smash it down on him.
As for the clash of the Avengers and X-Men, we see footage of Mystique going head-to-head with Yelena Belova’s Black Widow, and Gambit throwing down with Shang-Chi. Both scenes are very cool!
This kind of showdown actually taps into a long-standing comic book tradition. Since the 1960s, superhero crossovers almost always kick off with a fight. The Avengers and the X-Men have never had a simple relationship in Marvel Comics.
They’ve teamed up, sure, but they’ve also gone to war more than once. The 2012 Avengers vs. X-Men event pushed that rivalry to its limit, delivering exactly the kind of matchups fans obsess over.
Avengers: Doomsday looks like it’s pulling from even bigger ideas. The story is expected to involve multiversal incursions, where entire universes collide and only one can survive. If the X-Men’s universe crashes into the MCU’s Earth-616, there’s no compromise. One world lives. One world dies. That kind of setup doesn’t leave room for negotiation. It demands conflict.
The movie isn’t forcing a fight just for spectacle. The stakes make it unavoidable. Both teams are fighting for their homes, their people, and everything they stand for.
And while all of this chaos unfolds, Doctor Doom is lurking over it all like a nightmare waiting to take control. If he’s powerful enough to stop Stormbreaker without breaking a sweat, then the Avengers and the X-Men will be walking straight into something far worse than each other.
Avengers: Doomsday is the collision that has been rumored over the past several months, and it also something fans have been building in their heads for years, and now it’s finally real.
