AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Reveals Why Avengers and X-Men Come to Blows
Marvel fans have been waiting years for the Avengers and X-Men to finally collide on the big screen, and it looks like Avengers: Doomsday might be the movie that makes it happen.
With the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man all reportedly sharing the spotlight while squaring off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, this is going to be a massive MCU event. Now, a new rumor may have revealed exactly why Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Marvel’s mutants end up battling each other.
Recent rumors, paired with comments from cast members tied to Avengers: Doomsday, has made it clear that a superhero civil war of sorts is coming.
The Avengers and X-Men are set to clash, and Marvel’s First Family will apparently be right in the middle of it. The big question has been what sparks the conflict. According to insider @MyTimeToShineH, the answer lies in multiversal trauma.
They explain, "In Avengers: Doomsday, the X-Men [have] been through many Incursions, so when the Avengers and [Fantastic Four] come to their universe to try and help them, they assume they came there to destroy them, and that's why they fight."
That setup feels straight out of the classic Marvel playbook. Heroes collide due to misunderstandings, emotions run hot, and things get ugly before cooler heads prevail.
If this rumor holds true, the X-Men aren’t just defensive, they’re exhausted and scarred from repeated incursions that have already devastated their world. From their point of view, another group of powerful outsiders showing up looks less like help and more like the next apocalypse.
It also helps explain earlier reports about some major X-Men characters being gone by the time we meet them in Avengers: Doomsday. Names like Jean Grey and Storm being off the board suddenly make grim sense.
If their universe has survived multiple incursions, losses would be inevitable, and that history would absolutely fuel their distrust of the Avengers.
Fans are understandably hyped to see the Fox-era X-Men back in action, but it’s still unclear how large their role will be. Marvel Studios is planning a full reboot of the mutant franchise after Avengers: Secret Wars, so there’s a fine line between giving fans what they want and overshadowing what’s coming next.
We’ve already seen how tricky that balance can be. Wesley Snipes returning as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine stirred up a lot of excitement, but it also reignited debate about Mahershala Ali’s future as the Daywalker.
All signs point to Avengers: Doomsday being less about easy team-ups and more about tension, grief, and hard-earned alliances. Watching the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four navigate that chaos while Doctor Doom looms over everything sounds like classic Marvel cinematic chaos.
The movie is being directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, working from a script by Stephen McFeely, with Michael Waldron also contributing. Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to hit theaters on December 18, while Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
So how do you want the X-Men handled when they finally cross paths with the Avengers? Are you hoping for an all-out war or a more emotional, tragic clash before the bigger threat shows up?
