AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumored Story Details Tease Doctor Doom’s Plan, Loki’s Role, and the Fate of Kang

The recent concept art leak for Avengers: Doomsday has cranked up the hype of the movie, and while some fans were initially skeptical about Doctor Doom stepping in as the big bad, fans seem to be willing to trust the vision of the Russo Bros.

Some interesting new details have surfaced about Doom’s plan, the fate of Kang, and Loki’s surprising importance to the story. These are just rumors for now, but there may be some truth to them.

According to The Cosmic Circus, Doom’s goal in Avengers: Doomsday is all about survival. He sets out to prevent Multiversal incursions, aiming to stop a complete collapse. Much like Thanos, he believes he’s doing the right thing. Given that He Who Remains wiped out countless timelines to create the Sacred Timeline, Doom is now determined to take control of his own fate.

Perez describes Doom’s motivation as wanting to "take the reins of his timeline and win his freedom."

We already know that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was scrapped in favor of Doomsday, and while Kang is out, the core premise remains largely the same.

"It’s still a very similar story being told: and that’s that the remaining heroes of the remaining worlds of the Multiverse have to find a way to save their own universe and how they’d go about in doing that, even if it means the destruction of the other universe to save their own."

It's also revealed that the Marvel characters who side with Doom view him as their savior. This idea, along with heroes fighting their Multiversal counterparts, leans heavily into Secret Wars territory, which is obviously what this is all leading to.

Doctor Doom may be at the center of the movie, but we know that it’s also going to feature a big lineup of heroes that includes Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Wong, Bruce Banner, and a "handful of mutants."

One of the more interesting revelations is Loki’s crucial role in the film. The report states that he is essentially Avengers: Doomsday’s "MacGuffin" and adds: "The race against Doomsday will be a race to see who gets to Loki first."

Given where we left Loki in Loki Season 2, maintaining the Multiverse’s infinite branching timelines, this makes a lot of sense. If Doom or another faction gets their hands on him, it could tip the balance in some wild ways.

Other details from the report include the New Avengers not forming until Secret Wars, certain characters being absent from the leaked concept art, and a Sanctum Sanctorum set being built in London for Doomsday. But perhaps the most crucial takeaway is how Marvel will handle the post-Secret Wars landscape.

The report explains that "The idea is to essentially update the timeline/universe into one where the Fantastic 4 and X-Men characters exist."

That means we aren’t wiping the slate clean, but rather reshaping the MCU in a way that allows for the introduction of long-awaited characters and teams.

Doom is shaping up to be a very different kind of villain compared to Thanos, and the battle for survival across multiple universes will likely bring some major surprises.

It’s clear that Marvel is drawing inspiration from Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic’s Secret Wars, but the Russo Brothers are also fans of the 1984 event by Jim Shooter, Mike Zeck, and Bob Layton. Expect elements of both versions to influence these films.

With Avengers: Doomsday set for release in May 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars arriving in May 2027, the next chapter of the MCU is shaping up to be pretty epic.
