AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Script Is Still Being Worked on Three Months Into Production: “There’s Plus-ing Happening Every Day”

Even though Avengers: Doomsday has been filming for three months, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says the work on the script isn’t over, and I guess that’s all part of the plan.

During a recent press event, Feige addressed the notion that Marvel has ever gone into production without a complete script. According to him, that’s never been the case, but he also admitted he’s never been fully satisfied with a script, or even a finished movie.

Instead, Marvel operates with a constant mindset of improvement, a process he refers to as “plus-ing.” He expalined:

“In fact, there is ‘plus-ing’ occurring on the set of Avengers: Doomsday as we speak. There’s plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well.

“So if they have an idea, you want to listen to it and you want to adjust to it and you want to improve it. I wouldn’t want to change that.”

Feige also revealed that Michael Waldron, best known for his work on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is collaborating with Stephen McFeely on the screenplay.

This Phase 6 juggernaut is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects yet.

Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU, this time in the role of the villain Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, as well as Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres/the Falcon), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor the Sub-Mariner), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Mabel Cadena (Namora), Alex Livinalli (Attuma), and Channing Tatum (Remy LaBeau/Gambit).

They are joined by Thunderbolts* stars Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova/Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/U.S. Agent), and Lewis Pullman (Bob Reynolds/Sentry).

The Fantastic Four: First StepsPedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/the Thing) are confirmed to return, as are former X-Men franchise stars Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and if Feige’s comments are any indication, the creative process will keep evolving until the very last moment.
