Marvel Almost Cast Another Actor to Play Old Steve Rogers in AVENGERS: ENDGAME
Avengers: Endgame was an incredibly satisfying end to the epic that was the Infinity Saga. It was an ending for many of our favorite Avengers, but many of the stories were tied up nicely, including Steve Rogers, aka Captain America (Chris Evans), who traveled back to the 1940s to live out his life after putting back the Infinity stones. But it almost ended on kind of a weird note with a different old man playing old Steve Rogers, and that would have just been wrong.
In a recent interview on The Jess Cagle Show (via ScreenRant), Anthony Mackie, who plays the Falcon in the MCU, dropped the info about Cap’s older alternate, saying:
“So they brought in like three actors [to play Old Cap]. They’re like, none of these. Like, this isn’t how Chris will look when he’s old. Like, he’s gonna [look] he’s like George Clooney. He’s going to be 95 and still like handsome, you know? So, they brought in a makeup team and prosthetics and makeup and made him into an old man. And how good of an actor Chris is, it actually worked. He pulled it off with his voice and everything. He did a great job.”
Yeah, I can’t imagine that they would have found an older actor that would have made sense. It would have had to have been explained in the scene that old Steve Rogers is who we were looking at, and that would have taken away from the emotion of the scene for sure. The Russo Brothers definitely made the right choice aging Evans, and he did a great job in the scene.
