AVENGERS: ENDGAME Directors Say Robert Downey Jr. Deserves an Oscar For His Role as Iron Man

Last week it was reported that Disney had a special screening of Avengers: Endgame for members of the Academy as the studio is looking to push the film for several Oscars including Best Picture.

One actor that Joe and Anthony Russo would like to see get nominated for Best Actor is Robert Downey Jr. who has been playing the role of Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man since 2008. In an interview with the Washington Post, Joe Russo said:

“His cumulative body of work from these movies is staggering. If you look at the work over just even the last four [Marvel] films he’s done, it’s phenomenal. . . . He deserves an Oscar perhaps more than anyone in the last 40 years because of the way that he has motivated popular culture… it’s heartbreaking. He has the world in tears right now.”

Yeah he makes a really good point here and I know the fans would love to see Downy Jr. get the nomination. Will it happen, though? I have no idea, but I think it would be great to see him get recognized for his awesome work in these movies.

Downey Jr. has also been nominated in the past for his film work, but he has yet to win the award. He was nominated in 1992 for playing Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin and again in 2009 for his hilarious part in Tropic Thunder.

Would you like to see Robert Downey Jr. nominated for an Oscar for Avengers: Endgame? Do you think he’d win?
