AVENGERS: ENDGAME ENCORE Trailer Reignites the MCU’s Most Epic Theater Experience and Teases DOOMSDAY
For a couple of glorious hours in 2019, Marvel fans completely lost their minds. Captain America wielded Mjolnir. The portals opened. The Avengers assembled. Grown adults screamed, cheered, cried, and hugged people they’d never met before.
Marvel wants us to experience all of that again. The first trailer for Avengers: Endgame Encore has arrived, bringing Anthony Russo and Joe Russo’s massive MCU event back to theaters while also giving fans another reason to return.
The re-release promises an “exclusive look” at Avengers: Doomsday, making this more than a nostalgia trip before Marvel’s next Avengers movie arrives.
The trailer leans into what made Endgame such a ridiculous theatrical experience in the first place. Rather than simply reminding audiences of the movie’s biggest scenes, it taps into the communal insanity that surrounded them.
If you were sitting in a packed theater, you know that several scenes turned screenings into sporting events. People were yelling at the screen, applauding, crying, and losing it alongside hundreds of other Marvel fans. Endgame Encore is basically an invitation to recreate that experience six years later.
Avengers: Endgame picks up after Thanos wipes out half of all life at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. The surviving heroes initially attempt to confront the Mad Titan, but their real chance at fixing the universe eventually leads them into a time-travel heist through the MCU’s past.
That journey ultimately builds to one of Marvel Studios’ greatest crowd-pleasing sequences, with the fallen heroes returning through Doctor Strange’s portals before Captain America finally delivers the words fans had waited years to hear: “Avengers, assemble.”
Watching that battle on the big screen again is already a pretty good excuse to head back to the theater, but the Doomsday material is the real wild card here.
Joe Russo previously explained that the re-release will contain footage specifically connecting Endgame to the upcoming Avengers movie.
“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame.”
He followed that up with another intriguing comment: “We can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame.”
Exactly what that means remains a mystery, and Marvel is clearly hoping that curiosity gets fans into seats.
The confirmed 185-minute runtime for Avengers: Endgame Encore points to roughly four minutes of additional material. That isn’t a huge amount of footage, but four minutes can reveal plenty, especially when Marvel is using it to create a direct connection between Endgame and Doomsday.
The big question is where this new material fits. Will it function as an added scene within Endgame itself? Is it essentially a Doomsday preview attached to the movie? Could it provide new context for events we thought were finished back in 2019?
Whatever Marvel and the Russos have cooked up, describing Endgame as an important companion to Doomsday certainly makes this re-release more interesting than simply putting an old blockbuster back on screens.
There’s also something fun about Marvel returning to Endgame at this point in the MCU. Few superhero movies have matched the sheer theatrical energy of that opening weekend, and revisiting it as Marvel prepares for another enormous Avengers event feels fitting.
More importantly, Endgame Encore gives fans the chance to hear an entire theater erupt when Mjolnir flies into Cap’s hand again. We all know it’s coming this time, but come on. That scene still rules!
