AVENGERS: ENDGAME ENCORE Will Include a Special New End Tag, but Only in Select Screenings
Marvel Studios is giving fans another reason to head back to theaters for Avengers: Endgame, and this time he studio is using the film to help pave the way for Avengers: Doomsday.
New details have surfaced about the upcoming theatrical return of Endgame, and it turns out not every audience will be getting the same experience.
According to Deadline, fans who see the movie in Disney's new Infinity Vision large format will get much more than a standard re-release. Those screenings will feature "a custom introduction, additional new footage, and a special end tag exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX releases." Marvel has even given the event a new title, Avengers: Endgame Encore.
That also means moviegoers attending standard screenings won't get the exclusive end tag. At the time of writing, it still isn't clear which theaters will be offering the Infinity Vision presentation, so fans may want to keep an eye on theater listings once tickets become available.
The biggest question, of course, is what's actually in that extra footage. Based on previous comments from the filmmakers, Marvel is using this re-release to connect Endgame directly to Avengers: Doomsday.
Speaking at the Sands Film Festival back in April, Joe Russo explained exactly why the filmmakers were excited about revisiting one of Marvel's biggest movies.
"You don’t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money, so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: It's a really unique opportunity."
Marvel is building a bridge between these two Avengers films, and fans are going to want to catch the Infinity Vision or IMAX version if they can. Honestly, what’s the point of seeing it any other way? Why would Marvel even release versions of the film without all the extra stuff?
We're now less than six months away from the release of Avengers: Doomsday, but Marvel has remained surprisingly tight-lipped about the movie.
Aside from four teaser trailers attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings earlier this year and a CinemaCon trailer shown exclusively to attendees, there hasn't been much official footage released for fans. The only other unusual bit of promotion came in the form of a themed coffee pop-up event.
With Robert Downey Jr. making his highly anticipated return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, anticipation is high. I’m sure Marvel finally release a proper trailer during San Diego Comic-Con this July.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18.
