Avril Lavigne's Pop-Punk Hit Song "SK8ER BOI" Is Getting Adapted Into a Movie
Back in 2002, the hit song “Sk8er Boi“ by Avril Lavigne popped onto the radio, and it topped the charts. I don’t know how or why, but if you asked me, I could sing you the entire song right now. It’s a catchy little tune about a boy and a girl from different sides of the tracks and the girl’s regrettable decision to turn him down, only to find out that he became a big rock star a few years down the road.
Now, coming up on the song’s 20th anniversary, it looks like we may see the song get made into a movie. The singer recently sat down with the podcast She is The Voice (via /Film), and said:
"I'm actually going to turn this song into a film...and take it to the next level."
The song is based on her own high school experiences, with her telling the podcast:
"You know what it was like in high school, you have all the different groups and cliques, and there's like skaters, preps, jocks. It's kind of like a missed opportunity at love.”
A film based on this song was first announced way back in 2003, but nothing ever came of it. We will see if this version comes to fruition. It sounds like a good option for a streamer, targeted at a teenaged audience. I don’t think it’s a super necessary film, but when has that ever stopped a studio?
Reminisce about the song below, and let us know if you’d be down to watch a Sk8er Boi movie.
