Awesome Trailer for TIMUR Unleashes Iko Uwais in a Brutal Jungle Rescue Mission
A couple of trailers have dropped for Timur, the latest Indonesian action thriller from Iko Uwais, and it looks like exactly the kind of hard-hitting, bone-crunching ride you’d expect from the guy who helped redefine modern martial arts cinema.
In Timur, Uwais isn’t just starring, he’s also stepping into the director’s chair for the first time. If his past work in The Raid films, Snake Eyes, Fistful of Vengeance, and The Expendables 4 is anything to go by, he knows exactly how to deliver action that hits hard and fast.
The story is rooted in real events, pulling inspiration from the 1996 Mapendumayang hostage rescue operation in Indonesia. During that incident, 11 scientific researchers, including several Westerners, were taken hostage by the Free Papua Movement in a remote mountainous region.
Uwais plays a soldier in the story named Timur who leads a high-risk rescue mission deep into hostile jungle territory. But this isn’t just another military operation. The mission forces him back into the place where he grew up, turning what should be a straightforward extraction into something much more personal.
The official synopsis reads: “A soldier named Timur leads a rescue team on a dangerous mission to free researchers kidnapped in the jungle. Trapped in a fraught area, they must face extreme terrain, time pressure, and unexpected dangers.
“The film is based on a real military incident in Indonesia, the Mapendumayang hostage rescue operation that took place in 1996. In this incident, 11 scientific researchers, including a few Westerners, were taken hostage [by the Free Papua Movement] in a mountainous eastern part of the country.”
As the team pushes deeper into the wilderness, Timur is joined by his best friend Sila, and together they’re forced to deal with more than just armed enemies. The terrain is unforgiving, the clock is ticking, and the past starts creeping in. What begins as a humanitarian mission turns into a personal reckoning.
The supporting cast includes Jimmy Kobogau, Aufa Assagaf, Yasamin Jasem, Fanny Ghassani, Kiki Narendra, and Andri Mashadi.
The trailer packed with gritty combat, tight close-quarters fights, and the kind of raw physicality that Uwais has built his reputation on. If you’re into intense action with a grounded edge, this looks like it’ll deliver.
The film already hit theaters in Indonesia late last year, but now it’s finally heading stateside with a VOD release starting April 7, 2026. That means you’ll be able to catch it on iTunes and other digital platforms very soon.
