Awesomely Bad Trailer for LADY BLOODFIGHT - "The Only Way Out Is To Kill Them All"
You know, it's been awhile since I've seen an awesomely bad martial arts competition movie. There was Streetfighter, Bloodsport, I even count Balls of Fury on some level. But this new film, Lady Bloodfight already has caught my interest.
Now, I'm not saying I don't enjoy terrible martial arts competition movies. I love them. You get all the weird characters with different styles and quirks. In fact, if I were to criticize the new Iron Fist Netflix series it would be that I wanted more unique challengers for Iron Fist to go up against. My favorite part of the series is when he took on the three challenges in one episode. That's the kinda thing I expect from martial arts movies. It's also the kind of thing the Iron Fist comics are leading towards.
So you can believe me when I say that just because this new film Lady Bloodfight looks terrible, that does not make me want to watch it any less. And boy, does the trailer make it look cheesetastic. From the mentor character who just doesn't understand her American trainee to all the dark lady glares each combatant gives each other. Now, the trailer is a little choppy, which worries me. I enjoy fighting movies that don't use jump cuts to fake action, but trailers often do things like that to push pacing. Everything about this movie screams funny bad.
Even the title Lady Bloodfight sounds pretty terrible. It's as if you literally wanted to do Bloodsport but new it couldn't be called Bloodsport so instead called it Bloodfight, then to really make it stand out as different, put the word Lady in front of it. At least Bloodsport makes sense. It's a sport involving blood. Sure, that must be some intense sporting. But a Bloodfight? Don't most fights have some blood in them. I mean. You're hurting each other. Even in cat fights they will scratch each other and cause each other to bleed a little.
Check out the new Trailer below. The film is to be released on DVD June 6th, but will also have select Theater showings May 5. So, if you want to check that out instead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opening night... do that.
