Aziz Ansari to Star in New Netflix Comedy Series
A couple of months after the series finale of Parks and Recreation, Aziz Ansari has found a new TV gig. EW reports that the comedian will star in a new comedy series on Netflix that he co-created with Parks & Rec writer/producer Alan Yang. The show is currently shrouded in mystery — one of the few things we know about it for sure is that it's filming in New York City — but Netflix is an obvious place for Ansari to launch a new show, considering his success with his stand-up specials on the streaming service.
Parks & Rec showrunner Mike Schur will executive produce this series, which also stars H. Jon Benjamin (the voice of Archer), Lena Waithe (Dear White People), Eric Wareheim (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), Noel Wells (SNL), and Kelvin Yu (Popular). Deadline chimes in with the fact that Homeland star Claire Danes is set to guest star, and The Spectacular Now director James Ponsoldt will be directing. Netflix has picked up 10 half-hour episodes, but there's no hint at when we might get to see them. I'm a big fan of Ansari's comedy, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does in this new show.
