BABY DRIVER Star Ansel Elgort is Set To Star in Steven Spielberg's WEST SIDE STORY

Director Steven Spielberg has cast Baby Driver star Ansel Elgort in his upcoming adaptation of West Side Story. He will take on the role of Tony in the movie and I think he’s a perfect choice for the part!

The part of Tony was first portrayed by Larry Kert in the original 1957 Broadway musical and Richard Beymer played the role in the classic 1961 movie.

The latest West Side Story adaptation was written by Oscar nominated screenwriter and Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner (Lincoln, Munich). The story was originally written by Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim with music by Leonard Bernstein.

Spielberg has spent the about a year looking for actors to fill the role in this movie. It’s taking so long because he needs good actors that are able to sing and dance. These are two qualities that Elgort has and I’m looking forward to seeing him in the role of Tony.

West Side Story is one of my favorite musicals and I can’t wait to see what Spielberg does with it!
