Bad Robot Is Developing a Series Adaptation of the Fantasy Novel BURN
J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company are developing a series adaption of the fantasy novel Burn. The book was written by Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls), and the story is set in 1957 and follows a girl and her father who hire a dragon to work their farm. Ness will also write and executive produce the series alongside Abrams.
The story is set during the Cold War, and it centers on a character named Sarah Dewhurst, “a biracial teen, and her father, outcasts in their little town of Frome, Washington, are forced to hire a dragon to work their farm, something only the poorest of the poor ever resort to.
“The dragon, Kazimir, has more to him than meets the eye, though. Sarah cannot help but be curious about him, an animal who supposedly doesn’t have a soul, but who is seemingly intent on keeping her safe.
“Because the dragon knows something she doesn’t. He has arrived at the farm with a prophecy on his mind. A prophecy that involves a deadly assassin, a cult of dragon worshippers, two FBI agents in hot pursuit—and somehow, Sarah Dewhurst herself.”
I haven’t read this book, but it sure does sound like it could make for an awesome series! I like the concept of the story and the blend of real-world with fantasy. I’ll be looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
