Badass Trailer for KAROSHI Unleashes JOHN WICK-Style Action in a Japanese-Influenced New York City
Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for Karoshi, a badass-looking action thriller from some of the creative talent behind the John Wick franchise, and this looks like it's going to be one hell of a ride!
The film takes place in a near-future Manhattan that has undergone a major cultural transformation, with Japanese traditions and corporate power shaping the city. The trailer offers a cool look at this alternate version of New York City, where a ruthless corporate system operates beneath the surface of everyday life.
The story follows a mysterious outsider who infiltrates a powerful corporation following the death of an employee. What he discovers is a brutal system of violence and control, and it looks like he's ready to tear the whole thing apart.
Teo Yoo (Past Lives) leads the film alongside an ensemble cast that includes Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Isabel May (Scream 7), Takehiro Hira (Shōgun), Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent), and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice).
One of the more exciting names attached to the project is Chad Stahelski, the director behind the John Wick movies, who serves as a producer. The film is written and directed by Takashi Doscher, with Jason Spitz, Alex Young, and Nathan Kahane also producing.
This movie looks awesome! I'm loving the Japanese-influenced vision of Manhattan, and the combination of corporate corruption, mystery, and hard-hitting action has me completely sold.
The trailer makes it look like we're in for some seriously badass fight sequences, interesting characters, and a story that has more going on than people simply beating the hell out of each other.
At just 88 minutes, Karoshi also looks like it could deliver a fast-paced, action-packed experience without overstaying its welcome.
Karoshi is targeting a February 5, 2027 release, and I'm definitely looking forward to checking this one out!
