Barack Obama and Joe Biden Go on Time Traveling Adventures with Neil Degrasse Tyson in This Animated Series Concept
Look, I know my job here is to be a comic news reporter. This isn't a politics page, and even though comics sometimes get political, I try to remain neutral in politics as a writer so people have fewer reasons to hate me than you already do. But this... I just can't even. This sounds amazing and looks amazing.
It's a Kickstarter for an animated series called Barry & Joe - The Animated Series and it follows Joe Biden and Barack Obama traveling through time with the help of Neil Degrasse Tyson as a Zordon like figure that appears in random places but only they can see him. Like on a cereal box or in a TV commercial. I love this, not for the political stand it may or may not be taking, but because of its complete bizarreness. Here's the synopsis:
Moments after the inauguration of the forty-fifth President, Barack Obama and his best friend Joe Biden were escorted to a secret lab, run by a team of the world's greatest scientists and occasionally Elon Musk.
Obama and Biden were asked to take off all of their clothes and hold very still in a fetal position until they felt a painful tingling sensation.
They would awake to find themselves inside of their younger selves. Driven to find each other, and together, change history for the better.
Their only guide on this journey is Neil deGrasse Tyson. A brilliant scientist from the present who appears in the form of an augmented reality that only they can see and hear.
And so they find themselves leaping throughout their own lifetime. Looking for the best in people... Striving to right injustice wherever they find it. Forever hoping that their next jump in time will take them to a future that’s not scary and fucked up.
A world which they can proudly call… home.
When people were making anime memes of Donald Trump, I thought that was funny, even if I didn't like Trump, I still thought the idea of him being a Shonen hero was funny. But this takes two people who you would least likely see on a time traveling adventure on a time traveling adventure. They say it's a combination of Johnny Quest and Quantum Leap.
I'm just saying this looks ridiculously amazing. If you want to donate you can, but I think they have hit their goal for a pilot, so now it's just time to tune in. I want this to be a thing. It's randomness like this that gets my blood pumping with excitement and happiness. You could take just about any US president and put them in an animated series about time traveling and I'd be all about it. It doesn't matter the party. We need more time traveling presidents.
