BARNEY the Big Purple Dinosaur Is Getting a Live-Action Movie
I’m sure you all remember who Barney is. As soon as you hear the name, I’m sure that “I love you, you love me” song immediately pops into your head. Well, the big purple dinosaur that a lot of kids grew up with in their lives is getting his very own live-action feature film.
Mattel has announced that a Barney the Dinosaur movie is in the works, and they have partnered up with Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Widows, Black Panther) and his 59% production banner to help develop the live-action film to audiences around the world. Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films had this to say in a statement:
“Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to Barney that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations. The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today’s kids.”
Kaluuya added:
“Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood. We’re excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of ‘I love you, you love me’ can stand the test of time.”
David Carrico of Valparaiso Pictures goes on to say the one thing that no one is looking forward to with the film:
“Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination, and we can’t wait to get ‘I love you, you love me’ stuck in heads everywhere, yet again,”
My oldest daughter grew up with Barney, so that show was on our TV all the time! Am I looking forward to getting that song stuck in my head again? No way!
I imagine the rise in popularity of Mister Rogers and the love and positivity that he brought into the world is the inspiration behind pushing this Barney movie to get made.
Are any of you excited to hear that Barney is getting his own movie?!
