BATGIRL Adds Ivory Aquinio to the Cast as Alysia Yeoh
The upcoming Batgirl film has added a new member to the cast with Ivory Aquino (When They See Us, Tales of the City). She will take on the role of Alysia Yeoh in the film, and she joins Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton and Jacob Scipio.
For those of you not familiar with who Alusia Yeah is, she is an activist and is Barbara Gordon's transgender roommate in Gotham City. She also owns a cat named Alaska. There’s also an alternate version of the character in the DC Comics Bombshells universe, and she is a member of the League of Batgirls.
I’m not really familiar with anything that Aquino has done, but it’ll be interesting to see how the character ends up being utilized in the series.
Batgirl is being directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah with a script written by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey). Kristin Burr, who recently worked on Cruella, is producing the film, which is going to be released exclusively on HBO Max.
Fraser is set to play the film’s mysterious villain and Keaton will be back in the role of Batman. It’s been explained that the movie will “take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham.” There’s no word on when the film will be released, but I sure do hope that it turns out awesome!
