BATGIRL Co-Director Adil El Arbi Says Brendan Fraser Gave an Oscar-Worthy Performance in the Scrapped DC Movie
Last year, DC’s Batgirl movie was pulled from the lineup, getting totally scrapped in favor of any kind of release, and its cast and crew were pretty upset by it. Fans also wondered why the studio wouldn’t just release the movie on HBO and let the fans enjoy what was made, especially considering the way the stars and creators talked about their love of the project.
Leslie Grace, who starred as Batgirl in the movie, previously said of her experience making the movie, and working with co-star Brendan Fraser:
"I truly had one of [the best] experiences with Batgirl. In terms of the experience of shooting, we were all so excited for people to see a lot of the action, a lot of the practical shots we did with fire. Our movie was full of practical fire, which was really hard to shoot. Brendan [Fraser], our villain, our Firefly, he was just so outstanding. I felt so blessed to have him as my sparring partner. We had so many amazing action scenes together where we were beating each other up, but hugging in between takes because he’s just so sweet."
Now, the film’s co-director, Adil El Arbi is also singing Fraser’s praises, telling Yahoo Entertainment of the film and its stars:
“People do love the Bat family: they love Batgirl, they love Gotham City, they love Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser gave an Oscar-worthy performance in the movie.”
Fraser is such a beloved actor. I would have liked to have seen his performance in the movie, and I think it was really awful of the studio to pull it out from under the people who worked so hard to make it. I’m glad he’s getting more roles again though, and will stay in the spotlight after his first Oscar win earlier this year for his performance in The Whale. Fraser will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, in theatres October 20th.
