BATGIRL Directors Discuss Their Scrapped Film After Watching THE FLASH Says It Was Like "Tim Burton's Gotham City"
The directors of DC’s scrapped Batgirl movie, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, recently talked about their movie after watching The Flash, and the movie made them sad because they didn’t have the opportunity to share the story they set out to tell.
Co-director Adil El Arbi told Insider: "We watched it and we were sad. We love director Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara, who produced the movie. But when we watched it, we felt we could have been part of the whole thing."
He went on to say: "We didn't get the chance to show Batgirl to the world and let the audience judge for themselves. Because the audience really is our ultimate boss and should be the deciders of if something is good or bad, or if something should be seen or not."
When comparing their Batgirl movie to The Flash, Arbi explained: "Our movie was very different than The Flash. That has a big fantasy component, ours was more grounded. More like Tim Burton's Gotham City."
That just makes me want to watch the movie even more, but unfortunately, it will never see the light of day. Regardless of how they and their film were treated by WB, they still want to return and make another DC movie one day, Fallal added: "There's still a feeling of unfinished business.”
Adil concluded, saying: "Our love for DC, Batman, Batgirl, Gotham City, it's so big that, as fans, we could never say no to another project. If we got another chance to be part of it, we'd do it. We didn't get our day in court. We still want to make our case."
Maybe one day they will get to be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe. James Gunn and Peter Safran are leading the charge on the future of DC, and there’s no word on if they are looking to bring Arbi and Fallah in to take on one of their several projects.
