BATGIRL Star Leslie Grace Breaks Silence on Film's Cancelation and Shares Behind the Scenes Photos
DC fans are still reeling from Warner Bros. announcement that the Batgirl movie has been cancelled and will not be released for people to see. I can only imagine how frustrating that must be for the talent that was involved with bringing the movie to life.
There’s a lot of crazy hard work that goes into the development of a film, and with the movie be shelved, it seems like all that hard work and time has gone to waste. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah released a statement saying they are saddened and shocked by the decision. They said:
“We are saddened and shocked by the news. We still can’t believe it. As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves.
“Our amazing cast and crew did a tremendous job and worked so hard to bring Batgirl to life. We are forever grateful to have been part of that team. It was a dream to work with such fantastic actors like Michael Keaton, J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio, Corey Johnson, Rebecca Front and especially the great Leslie Grace, who portrayed Batgirl with so much passion, dedication and humanity.”
Now, the star of the film, Leslie Grace, has broken her silence on the cancellation, and she just seems grateful for the opportunity she had. She also shared some behind the scenes photos and videos for fans to see. She said:
Querida familia! On the heels of the recent news about our movie “Batgirl,” I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan - THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, “my own damn hero!”

Not long after the news broke that the Batgirl was being shelved, WB released the following statement:
"The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership's strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future."
The studio spent $90 million on the film, but it was pointed out to me that in the end they will make more money off it as a tax-write off than they would from putting it on HBO Max. I’m still interested in seeing the film, though! I can’t help but be curious.
