BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL Animated Movie Will Feature Tim Drake’s Robin, Confirms Screenwriter
The upcoming Batman: Knightfall animated movie is shaping up to be something truly exciting for longtime DC fans, especially those who grew up with the ’90s era of Gotham.
One big question fans had was finally answered thanks to Jeremy Adams, the screenwriter for the project, has confirmed which version of Robin will suit up alongside the Dark Knight.
Warner Bros. Animation revealed the multi-part animated adaptation of the legendary Batman: Knightfall storyline during its New York Comic Con panel.
Part 1: Knightfall is being helmed by Jeff Wamester, a veteran of DC’s animated universe, and is currently in production for a 2026 release.
Adams took to Instagram to share his excitement, writing, “Very excited. The movie rules, and I’m thrilled to have gotten the chance to adapt it.”
Naturally, fans flooded the comments with hype and questions. One question a lot of fans had was whether or not the version of Robin featured would be the original Knightfall-era Robin, Tim Drake, or a modern replacement like Damian Wayne.
Adams answered saying: “No bro. It’s old school Tim [Drake]. He’s so good in it.”
Tim Drake was created by Marv Wolfman and Pat Broderick, debuting in Batman #436 as the third character to take up the Robin mantle.
While not as universally known as Dick Grayson, Tim’s legacy runs deep, especially in animated projects where he was voiced by Mathew Valencia, Eli Marienthal, and Dean Stockwell.
His one and only live-action appearance came in Titans, played by Jay Lycurgo.
This adaptation will mark the first DC Universe Animated Original Movie since Watchmen wrapped its two-part run in 2024.
The official logline for Batman: Knightfall reads: “When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”
No voice cast has been announced yet, but with this confirmation of Tim Drake, fans of classic DC Comics lore have even more reason to get pumped for what’s coming.
Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in 2026.
