BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Celebrated Its 30th Anniversary! Share Your Thoughts on the Classic Show!
Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of Batman: The Animated Series! It’s crazy that it’s been thirty years since this show first aired! This series was a huge part of growing up for me, and it’s still one of the best and greatest animated shows that has ever been produced. To this day, it may favorite version of Batman.
I was lucky as a kid when this series was airing because my uncle, Frank Paur, was one of the directors on the show. He used to come over to my house on the weekends with a VHS tape in hand with a new upcoming episode of the series. Yep, I got to watch a lot of the episodes of the series months before they aired on TV. I watched them so early on that most of the time they were still unfinished.
I remember going to my uncle’s house and going through the storyboard art he was working on for the upcoming episodes. Having an uncle working on this show at the time was so freakin’ cool! Then, of course, it was always fun getting together with friends to watch the show.
The series was developed by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Mitch Brian. The other talented directors included Kevin Altieri, Boyd Kirkland, Dan Riba, Dick Sebast, and Eric Radomski. There was also a whole team of writers that developed the awesome stories that it told.
Batman: The Animated Series set the high standard for what animated shows could and should be. It’s a high bar to reach, and only a handful of shows that have been made since have been able to reach that bar.
