BATTLEBOTS is Making a Comeback and is Returning to Discovery and Science Channel
I was a huge fan of BattleBots when it was on the air and I'm so excited to report that it's making a comeback! BattleBots is set to return to Discovery and Science Channel. For those of you who aren't familiar with the series, the series revolves around people who build homemade robots on a myriad of platforms and then they battle each other in epic robot combat to the death!
The Robot Combat Sports matches will feature two robots competing in a single, three-minute bout in which the goal is to destroy or disable their opponent. If there is no knockout during the battle, a panel of judges will declare a victor.
Marc Etkind, general manager at Science Channel had this to say in a statement:
"BattleBots is the perfect union between cutting-edge science and entertainment. Having heard the call from robot fans clamoring for more action, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic series."
BattleBots co-founder Ed Roski added:
"In BattleBots, anyone can be the champ, and all are welcome to apply. This is a sport for smart people where it's all about ideas and building something cool. BattleBots is a fight to the death, but no one gets hurt. It’s the place to show off your imagination, your engineering prowess and art, and your ability to make it survive — and we couldn’t be happier bringing BattleBots to Discovery. In my opinion, Discovery is the TV network where BattleBots has always belonged.”
The series originally aired on Comedy Central from 2000 to 2002 and was later revived by ABC and aired in 2015-16. I can't wait to watch more robots go head to head in combat! Below you'll find a video featuring ten of the best BattleBot moments from the past.
