BATTLESTAR GALACTICA's Ronald D. Moore Shares His Thoughts on Sam Esmail's Reboot
Sam Esmail has been developing a reboot of Battlestar Galactica for quite some time, and the last we heard, The Sinner creator Derek Simonds joined the project as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
During a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Ronald D. Moore, the creator of the 2000 series was asked about the new reboot and if he felt any ownership of the property.
He replied: “It's just like, godspeed, you know? Like you said, I rebooted and reinvented or whatever the term is we want to use so far. Far be it for me to begrudge anybody else from doing the same thing.
“And Sam Esmail called me personally to say, ‘Hey, you know, I want to do this. Are you ok with that?’ I was like, ‘You don't really need my permission, but I appreciate it!’ It was a lovely call, and I wish them the best of luck with it.”
Moore previously explained that he and Esmail discussed the upcoming show and learned that during his conversations, instead of starting from scratch, Esmail planned on keeping his show in the same universe as Moore’s show.
He said: “Sam called me and was very gracious, he didn’t pitch me the story so I don’t know. But he said his plans and he wasn’t going to re-start the show and recast it but he wanted to do something in the same universe.
“Sam’s amazing and I love Mr. Robot. I was like, you know, ‘You’re an amazing guy and amazing writer, go with god!'”
When previously giving an update on the project, Esmail shared: “I just read a great outline and it’s in great shape. Because the strike is over now – at least the WGA strike is over – we’re back into developing it.”
I’m really interested in seeing how this next Battlestar Galactica turns out, but with Esmail leading the charge, I’m sure it’ll turn out great!
