Baz Luhrmann Casts Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley in His Upcoming Elvis Biopic
Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby) has been at work on his untitled Elvis Presley biopic for a bit now andalready cast Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as the King of Rock n Roll and Tom Hanks (Sleepless in Seattle, Philadelphia) as the star’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
The director has now found his Priscilla Presley in the actress Olivia DeJonge (The Visit, The Society). DeJonge will play the only wife of the rock star, whom he met when he was 24 and she was only 14. They dated for 7 years, and finally tied the knot amid allegations of his unfaithfulness. They went on to have one daughter, Lisa Marie, and divorced after five years of marriage. Though she was always tied to Elvis, she did go on to have an acting career and has been regarded for her beauty and fashion sense.
Deadline reports the following description for the film:
The untitled drama covers the seminal legend’s growth from dirt poor singer to global icon, seen through the prism of his complex relationship over two decades with manager Colonel Tom Parker. The film will shoot early next year in Queensland, Australia. The story will delve into their complex dynamic spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley.
I’m pretty excited to see this film. I think the casting is spot on, and I love so much of Elvis Presley’s catalog of music. Are you excited for the film and the casting so far?
